Happy Friday everyone! December certainly was a chilly month here. But regardless of whether the weather cooperates this weekend there's plenty of things going on around our area.....indoors and out.
As we get ready to jump into 2011, there will be plenty of people ringing in the new year around our area. The City of Gainesville Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs will host Downtown Countdown, a New Year's Eve celebration. The Bo Diddley Community Plaza will be the place to be from 9 p.m. until just after midnight. The celebration will feature music by the Beatles tribute band, The Impostors...along with the group Velveeta Underground which plays a mix of blues, folk and chamber rock. The concert will run until 12:30 but as the clock strikes midnight there will be confetti along with the sounds of noisemakers available to the crowd. The celebration and concert are free. In Ocala you can celebrate the new year at the Ocala Civic Theatre. You can catch their production of "The Full Monty" tonight. “The Full Monty” takes place in Buffalo, New York where the recession has hit the local workers hard. Seeing how much their wives enjoy watching male strippers during their "Girls' Night Out," some of the unemployed workers come up with a plan to make some quick cash. The play does have some profanity and brief nudity and is not recommended for children. You can see "The Full Monty" tonight and Saturday night at 8...with a matinee Sunday at 2 p.m. Your text to link...
For an additional charge you can enjoy the Ocala Civic Theatres New Years Eve party. It starts tonight at 10:30 and will feature hors d'oeuvres and cheesecake for desert. The ticket cost is 32 dollars and includes one glass of champagne for the toast at midnight and party hats and favors will be provided. Your text to link...
Saturday the city of Archer is celebrating the life of Bo Diddley. The singer, songwriter and guitarist would have been 82 this weekend. The "Bo Diddley All-Star Classic" will run Saturday from 9 to 5 and is free. The outdoor festival will feature music, of course, in addition to a fashion show, talent showcase and youth football games. Just head to the Wilson Robinson Pavilion in Archer.
And don't miss the Gators versus the Penn State Nittany Lions Saturday at 1 p.m. here on WCJB TV20. Enjoy your weekend!
