Where is Haleigh Cummings?
No one has been arrested, no body has been found.
2 years ago, 5 year old Haleigh Cummings disappeared from the small town of Satsuma in Putnam County.
After an exhaustive search and lead after lead investigated, the sheriff's office believes someone Haleigh knew is responsible. But investigators remain quiet about some things they know about the case.
In a statement, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office indicated that those who saw Haleigh last are holding back information. Captain Johnny Greenwood also said the case is active and sensitive.
Although the little girl is presumed dead by investigators at this point, Haleigh's great grandmother said the family believes otherwise.
Annette Sykes said, "Far as we're concerned, she's still alive somewhere." Sykes said every day without Haleigh is harder than the last. She said, "We don't know anything. We don't know any more now than we did when she went missing."
Exactly two years ago Haleigh Cummings was reported missing from her father's home on Green Lane in Satsuma. Misty Croslin was babysitting Haleigh that night at Ronald Cummings' home. Croslin said she went to bed and when she awoke, Haleigh was gone.
In the days and months following her disappearance, law enforcement searched for Haleigh everywhere. Even sending dive teams into the St. John's River. But still no Haleigh.
In 2009 Sheriff Jeff Hardy said, "We're going to continue this investigation until we can bring it to a logical conclusion so the information and all the answers you want right now, I can't provide that for you."
The sheriff's office has named Croslin a key figure in the case. She and Ronald Cummings are in prison on unrelated drug charges. Croslin maintains that she knows nothing about Haleigh's disappearance.
In a recorded phone call from the Putnam County Jail Croslin said she didn't know what happened. Sykes wouldn't comment on the drug incarceration, instead asking whoever knows something about the case to come forward.
Skyes said, "There has to be someone else other than the person that took her that knows. There always is. And I would say to that person have a conscience."
Sykes and the rest of Haleigh's family are holding vigils and asking the community to join with them in praying for her. She said, "And pray for her that she comes home soon."
Tonight the family held a public vigil at Annette Sykes' home in Welaka.
