Happy Friday everyone! Though we got a little reminder today that winter hasn't come to an end yet, the weather this weekend shouldn't keep you from getting out of the house. And "variety" is a good word to describe the events we have going on this weekend.
One of the biggest events of the year for north-central Florida is already underway. The NHRA Gatornationals are in full swing out at the Gainesville Raceway. Weather many times creates havoc for the people at the raceway but that will not be the case this weekend. Whether you like the pro-stock motorcycles, funny cars, or top fuel dragsters (to name a few)....there'll be plenty to see.....along with the smell of burning rubber. The gates open at 7 Saturday morning....and at 7:30 Sunday. If you've never been, the raceway is located on County Road 225 in NE Gainesville. Heading north on Waldo Road (State Road 24) make a left onto NE 53rd Avenue....then an immediate right on County Road 225. Your text to link...
Cars may be burning up the track at the raceway this weekend, but Saturday evening you can see our own Dave Snyder burning up the dance floor. "Dancing With The Gainesville Stars", north-central Florida's version of ABC's popular tv show, is coming to the Hilton at the University of Florida. It's a fundraiser for the Junior League of Gainesville. Local celebrities will partner with Imperial Dance Studio and each couple will perform a Ballroom or Latin dance. The evening starts off with a silent auction and cocktails at 6:30....followed by dinner and, of course, the competition. Tickets are $100 with the proceeds benefiting the Junior League's community projects. Your text to link...
If you want more dancing....then head over to the Phillips Center as Danscompany of Gainesville will be hitting the stage for their spring concert. As part of the performance you'll see Dorothy, the tin man, and your other favorite characters from the Wizard of Oz as Danscompany performs their adaptation of "The Wiz". And you can even get your picture taken with one of your favorite performers. The shows are Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the Phillips Center in SW Gainesville. Your text to link...
With spring just around the corner, lots of people are getting their gardens ready for the warm months to come. In Marion County you can get some expert advice this weekend on what to plant. The 17th Annual Marion County Master Gardeners Spring Festival is this Saturday and Sunday. There will be a big selection of plants and flowers, in addition to accessories for your yard. And, whether your interested in landscaping for butterflies....or trying to find drought resistant plants...there'll be plenty to learn, too. The annual plant sale and gardening expo is at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion, 2232 NE Jacksonville Road in Ocala. Hours are 8 to 5 Saturday and 9 to 4 on Sunday. Your text to link...
Finally, in Marion County, you can check out the Charlie Daniels Band at Silver Springs Saturday afternoon. Showtime is at 3.
