Happy Friday everyone! Though spring doesn't officially begin for a couple more days, it's felt like spring around our area for some time now. And the last few weekends have certainly been great if you like the "great outdoors". In the spotlight tonight we have some outdoor events....and a few things you can do inside this weekend.
You can get your weekend off to an early start tonight at the Gainesville Community Playhouse. Their new production "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" hits the stage. The 2005 Broadway production was a hit and was nominated for 6 Tony Awards, winning two. The one act musical comedy focuses on the adventures of six kids (played by adults) at the annual spelling bee competition. The interesting thing about this show is it that four people are recruited from the audience to "compete" in the spelling bee with the six "younger" contestants. "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" is at GCP's Vam York Theatre on NW 16th Blvd. in Gainesville. Shows are tonight and Saturday night at 8...with a matinee Sunday at 2 pm. The show runs through April 10th. Your text to link...
If you want to get outside and take advantage of the beautiful weather, you might want to stop by Thornebrook Village in Gainesville Saturday. The second annual "Where the Sidewalk Ends: Family Arts Festival will be underway from 10 to 4 Saturday. It's done as a celebration of Youth Art Month. And there be plenty for the young, and young at heart to do. There will be art vendors, music...and of course food. The kids will have plenty to do...like face-painting and instrument making...just to name a few activities. And the Youth Art Section will allow the younger artists to sell their creations. Sounds like fun. Thornebrook Village is located at 2441 NW 43rd Street in Gainesville. Your text to link...
Also outside this weekend you'll get a chance to see some awesome cars from the past. The 29th Original Cruz-In car show, hosted by Gainesville Street Rods, will be at Santa Fe College from 10 to 4 Saturday. A local favorite, the car show gives you the chance to check out some cool cars...with the proceeds of the event benefiting Stop Childrens Cancer. There will be cars, trucks and motorcycles of all kinds....competing for awards. Cruz-in will be located at the Santa Fe College campus on NW 39th Avenue in Gainesville, across from the Springhill Publix. Your text to link...
Spring is on the way....and springtime in north central Florida brings the blooming of the azaleas.
