Caught: "Peeping Tom" Neighbor
One Gainesville mom is not revealing her identity, for her daughters sake.
"It makes me feel very angry, very angry to know that my daughter was compromised like that," said one Gainesville mom.
According to Alachua County Sheriff's Deputies, a peeping Tom, Kevis Johnson, 20, of Gainesville has been locked up on burglary and voyeurism charges, after watching a 15-year-old girl sleep early Sunday morning.
According to detectives, her mom discovered Johnson when the sun came up.
"I opened the blinds...and I froze for only a second," she said.
Johnson ran, and the mom called 911. A K9 unit followed Johnson's scent, but it wasn't a very long trail. The dogs led deputies just a few doors down from the victim's condo at Timber Way in north west Gainesville, to Johnson's front door.
"He'd come in and out, but I'd never really seen him that much," she said.
Johnson is new to the neighborhood, living there for about two months.
"It's very unlikely that this is the only incident," said Detective Glenn Jones.
Detectives say Johnson left behind enough DNA evidence to lock him up.
"At this point in time we have positive identification from the palm print and finger print, also indication it appears to be an ear print on the glass window," he said.
Detectives suspect Johnson was looking in for hours.
"She did come in and undress out of her clothes, and we got in after dark- so I'm not sure if he had been there before she actually heard him," said the mom.
The teen heard a noise around 2:30 in the morning-- but her mom didn't think anything of it.
"I guess I was a little complacent, like this is a good neighborhood, and nothing like this would ever happen, but I just want to let everybody know it doesn't matter where you're at--- it can happen anywhere," she said.
According to deputies, Johnson was arrested in April in Alachua county, on a marijuana charge, but was acquitted due to lack of evidence. He's also had some traffic offenses.
Being that this is his first voyeurism, or "peeping tom" arrest, he'll be charged with a misdemeanor, but he's also being charged with a felony for breaking into the victim's back gate.
