Hitting the Breaks
"My utility bill was due and I can't call GRU and keep asking for extensions," said Pebbles White, who is quitting her job as a driver with X'Ceptional Path, a Gainesville transportation company that takes people with disabilities to and from day programs.
White says the owner, Tai'mani Perry owes her $2,400.
Former employee Marceda Welcome is suing Perry in small claims court for the $1,100 dollars she says she earned- but never got.
"Budget cuts...she wasn't aware of the budget cuts," she said.
TV20 made a stop at the business headquarters in east Gainesville, which is also where the owner lives.
Perry did not have much to say to the cameras.
Police were called to her house. Perry eventually tried driving away, only to be followed, and taken to the hospital by police.
"I don't feel no remorse, she don't care about us, I just want money- that's it," said Deon English, a former driver.
"To my understanding someone else got a suit on her, so we probably all wont get paid," said Welcome.
White says Perry told her last night that medicaid has delayed sending reimbursement checks-- so her account is dry.
If White doesn't drive tomorrow, that leaves ten clients without a ride.
