Archer Celebrates Grand Opening of Community Center
Published August 3rd, 2011
They started out raising money in flea markets...
But what began as a small fund-raising effort soon turned into a community project.
Eight years and over one million dollars later, the Archer Community Center is now open.
More than 250 community members and leaders came out today to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the center.
The building was in 1937 and was part of the old Archer High School.
The building will be used as a multi-purpose facility.
Organizers say the facility is important to a small town like Archer, where there are few large centers to have public gatherings.
The facility is a block south of the post office on US 27 in Archer. It can hold 280 people.
