Early Morning Fire in Downtown Area of Gainesville
Published October 13th, 2011
A historic Gainesville home was completely destroyed in an early morning fire near the downtown area.
Gainesville Fire Rescue received a call early Thursday morning that a home at the intersection of northwest 4th street and northwest third avenue was heavily engulfed in flames. When they arrived on scene the home was already badly damaged. GFR says they do not know at this time if anyone was inside of the home when the fire started.
Because it's a historical home, wiring and electrical issues made putting the blaze out more difficult. About twenty firefighters are still on the scene as they continue to work to put out hot spots.
It is still unclear at this time what caused the fire.
