Florida School Count Week....Don't Play Hooky!
Published October 11th, 2011
This is a crucial week for schools across North Central Florida. Playing hooky could cost them money. Now through Friday all over Florida, public school students will be counted.
The attendance numbers will be sent to state education leaders in Tallahassee, who then determine how much funding each district receives for full time students.
School officials claim last year in Alachua County, 200 thousand dollars was lost because 30 students were absent during what is known as the "full time equivalent" count.
