Meth Lab Next Door To Daycare
Kathleen Norton says something needs to be done about the meth labs popping up in Lake City neighborhoods.
"I think that they need to know that immediately, when they're caught doing something like that, you automatically have prison sentence," she said.
Adam Dicks and David Ritch are behind bars, after officers found a small methamphetamine lab inside the home at 247 NE Old Jacksonville Loop on Monday.
"It is an explosive hazard, these things will fireball when they explode-- so they're quite dangerous," said Sgt. Ed Seifert, spokesperson for the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
Busy Bee Daycare is on the other side of the fence, and parents say they're shocked over what's been going on right next to their kids.
"Its always been real quiet-- I've never had a problem over here," said Shelley Roberts, as she was picking up her two children from the daycare on Tuesday.
Seifert says meth labs are on the rise.
"We've seen a slight increase here in our county, we're a rural area so we do have labs here from time to time because they are so well hidden," he said.
Norton joins others calling for stricter penalties for those who get caught cooking meth.
"They're destroying families, destroying children so I think they ought to know, immediately, if you get caught making something like that, you're going to prison," she said.
