Primary Victory

Published February 1st, 2012

Alachua county voters did show Newt Gingrich a lot of love- he walked away with about a hundred more votes than Mitt Romney, but Romney took the state; he won the primary with 47% of the votes, but says the battle isn't over.

"As this primary unfolds, our opponents in the other party have been watching, and they like to comfort themselves with the thought that a competitive campaign will leave us divided and weak... but I've got news for them- a competitive primary does not divide us- it prepares us, and we will win," he said.

Though he lost the state, Gingrich says he will press on, and his name will be on the Republican presidential ticket. He says if Obama gets re-elected, it'll be a disaster for the country.

"We are going to contest every place, and we are going to win--we will be in Tampa as the nominee in August....if he can have a record this bad, unemployment this bad-- deficits this bad, policies this bad, gasoline prices this high, and still get reelected, you can't imagine how radical he will be in his second term," he said.

As for the democrats watching from the sidelines, the party's national committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released a statement tonight saying Mitt Romney's victory in Florida was no surprise. She says he outspent his opponent by running thirteen thousand ads to Gingrich's 200-"carpet bombing" the airwaves with negative ads.
