Ocala Hub for Tech Based Businesses
A renovated electric plant is bringing small businesses to downtown Ocala in direct competition with a similar initiative in Gainesville.
Ocala's new hub called "The Power Plant" is designed to help small technology based businesses get up and running.
The Power Plant's director says the goal is to make Ocala a place companies want to call home.
The project initially powered by grant money from Marion County for technology and the director's salary.
Large Check Scam Uncovered in Live Oak
Two people have been arrested accused of counterfeiting more than $13 thousand in checks.
And Live Oak police are asking the secret service to help investigate the check fraud scam.
31 year old Demetrius Brown and 41 year old Celestine Collins of Live Oak are accused of organizing and printing false checks.
Police say they started investigating when officials from TD Bank reported the counterfeit checks cleared from several businesses.
Detectives went to Brown's home and seized computers, printers, and personal identification information on hundreds of people.
Police say some money has been recovered. TD Bank officials say any businesses affected will get their money back.
