Happy Friday everyone! Today wasn't the prettiest day around north-central Florida. While we may have to dodge some raindrops this weekend, there's plenty of things to do if you decide to brave the elements.
It's Olustee weekend...and time for the Olustee Festival in downtown Lake City. The festival on Saturday will feature a variety of activities including arts and crafts, entertainment, and activities for the kids The Olustee Civil War Parade starts at 10:30 Saturday morning. Fifteen miles east of Lake City on highway 90 there will be plenty going on this weekend at the Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park. You'll be able to experience life back in the 1860's. The main events are a civil war battle reenactment Saturday at 3:30....with the annual reenactment of Florida's largest Civil War battle Sunday at 1:30. Website
If having fun and getting some fresh seafood sounds good to you, this may be a good weekend to head to the Gulf. The fourth annual Fiddler Crab Festival will have the small community of Steinhatchee hopping this weekend. There WILL be food (of course), live music, crafts, and other activities. There's a parade at 10 Saturday morning. And make sure you don't miss the fiddler crab races on Saturday, too. The Steinhatchee Fiddler Crab Festival runs through Sunday at the Steinhatchee Community Center which overlooks the Steinhatchee River. Website
In Gainesville it's Five Points of Life Race Weekend. The Five Points of Life raises awareness of the need for lifesaving donations of blood, marrow and other related products. Whether you enjoy walking or running you can participate. Saturday at 8 a.m. there's the 5 points 5 k race and fitness expo, followed at 9 by the Kids Marathon. Gator fans will want to head to McKethan Stadium this weekend as Gator baseball kicks off its 2012 campaign, facing off against Cal State Fullerton. Meanwhile, the ladies softball team takes on Michigan State at the Pressly softball facility on the UF campus. Website
