Officers at the Columbia Correctional institution near Lake City are pulling all of their resources together to help the family of the guard who died after an inmate attacked an killed him late sunday night.

The jail has put together a fundraiser that will be put into a special trust fund for the family of Ruben Thomas.

So far they have raised over 10 thousand dollars, hoping to reach their goal of 40 thousand.

Fellow co-workers say Thomas was a well respected officer that was known for his hard work.

He leaves behind his fiancee, one year daughter and unborn child.
