Happy Friday everyone! It's always great to get to the weekend. And there's plenty of activity here this weekend....whether it be at the track or on the stage....
The Gainesville Raceway will be a busy place this weekend as Gatornationals returns to town. Whether you like the motorcycles, funny cars, or top fuel dragsters (to name a few)....there'll be plenty to see.....along with the smell of burning rubber. The gates open at 7 Saturday morning....and at 7:30 Sunday. If you've haven't been, the raceway is located on County Road 225 in NE Gainesville. Heading north on Waldo Road (State Road 24) make a left onto NE 53rd Avenue....then an immediate right on County Road 225. Website
Though spring is still a week and a half away, lots of people are heading to the garden. The Marion County Master Gardeners Spring Festival is this Saturday and Sunday. There will be a big selection of plants and flowers, in addition to accessories for your yard. And there'll be seminars to help you plan your garden. The annual plant sale and gardening expo is at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion, 2232 NE Jacksonville Road in Ocala. The event runs 8 to 5 Saturday and 9 to 4 on Sunday. Website
If you prefer the stage to being outside then head over to the Phillips Center as Danscompany of Gainesville will be hitting the stage for their spring concert. As part of the performance you'll see Dorothy, the tin man, and your other favorite characters from the Wizard of Oz as Danscompany performs their adaptation of "The Wiz". And you can even get your picture taken with one of your favorite performers. The shows are Saturday at 1:30 and 7 p.m. at the Phillips Center in SW Gainesville. Website
On the stage at Silver Springs, the band Styx is performing Saturday. The Chicago band is best known for its hits of the 70's and 80's...like "Lady", "Babe", "Come Sail Away" and "Mr. Roboto". Showtime is 3 p.m. Saturday at Silver Springs. Website And if you like country, Florida's own Mel Tillis is appearing at the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale. Shows are 2:30 and 7:30 Saturday.
