Weekend Planner
Happy Friday everyone! This IS a great time of year to venture out of the house. Lots of things going on around our area this weekend so lets get to it.
You can get your weekend started tonight at the O'Connell Center in Gainesville as the top ranked Gator Gymnasts take to the floor. The Lady Gators wrap up the regular season as they face off against Utah. The action begins at 7 in the Odome. Website Next door at McKethan Stadium, the number one mens baseball team takes on Vanderbilt at 7 o'clock. Parking near the 'dome will be at a premium so you may need to take the shuttle bus from the commuter lot to get to either event. Website
The Florida Gateway Pro Rodeo begins tonight and runs through Sunday in Lake City. There'll be lots of action with cowboys, bulls and clowns, of course. And there'll be some good food, too. The rodeo starts tonight and Saturday night at 8, Sunday at 1:30 at the Columbia County Fairgrounds on state road 247 in Lake City. Website
If you'd like to head over to the east coast, it's a great weekend for seafood. The 31st Annual Lions Seafood Festival is this weekend in St. Augustine. There'll be lots of great seafood, arts and crafts, music and fun for the kids. The event runs from 10 am to 9 pm Saturday and from 11 to 6 Sunday. Just head to Francis Field, located behind the Visitor Information Center near the big fort in downtown St. Augustine. Website
Back in Gainesville, the Keep Alachua County Beautiful Great American Cleanup is Saturday. It is part of the national Keep America Beautiful day...with over 1,000 communities and partners in the U.S. teaming up to beautify their neighborhoods. The event starts with registration and breakfast. You can pick the site to clean up...or they can suggest one. Supplies are provided...and a lunch will be served as well. The event starts at 8 Saturday morning at Westside Park in Gainesville. Website
One last note. At noon Saturday, the folks at North Florida Animal Rescue are having their grand opening in Wellborn, between Live Oak and Lake City. Website For more info on this, or any of the other stories, look for the "Weekend Planner" story at wcjb.com.
Enjoy your weekend!
