Weekend Planner
While we are jumping into April this weekend at least we don't have that summer-like humidity....yet. And there's lots to do outside...
Olustee Park in downtown Lake City will be the place to celebrate the arts this weekend. The MADDFEST Spring Arts Festival showcases some of the talent across our area....featuring musicians, actors, artists and dancers of all ages. There will be plenty of food and arts and crafts....with all of the booths and vendors surrounding the main stage. MADDFEST 2012 runs through 9 p.m. tonight....and 9 to 9 Saturday. If you're heading to Lake City, Olustee Park is located north of highway 90 between Hernando and Marion Avenues south of City Hall. Website
Saturday is the day for the O'leno Ole Chili Cookoff at Oleno State Park. The park will be the place for the event sanctioned by the Chili Appreciation Society International. You can bring your own recipe to compete.....or just sample what's there. Also at Oleno is the Springs Celebration which will feature music, tours of the river sink....in addition to other water activities. The Chili Cook-Off runs from 9-3 Saturday....while the Springs Celebration runs from 11 to 3. Oleno State Park is located on highway 441, about 6 miles north of High Springs. Website
Silver Springs continues it's concert series this weekend with Eddie Money. The career of the police officer turned musician really took off in the late 70's and 80's with a string of albums and hit songs. He's probably best known for his hits "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise". Eddie Money has sold more than 28 million albums in his career. He takes to the stage at Silver Springs at 3 Saturday. Website
Spring is well underway and many of us are working outside in the garden. You can get some help Saturday as the Morningside Nature Center is hosting the 2012 Spring Native Plant Sale. Not only can you buy plants that are native to north Florida but you can get expert gardening advice. The event runs from 8:30 to 12:30 Saturday at Morningside, located at 3540 East University Avenue in Gainesville. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
