Gainesville Police Host Outback Luncheon Benefit
One steak and chicken lunch at a time, Gainesville police are chewing their way to the number one top fundraising spot for Special Olympics.
Tuesday was local law enforcement's annual Outback Steakhouse fundraiser for the event.
Around 155 police personell and their families paid a $15 ticket for a lunch of steak, chicken, their choice of side, and a salad.
The luncheon raised $3,300 last year and helped bring them to more than $37 thousand dollars raised overall.
That amount placed Alachua County law enforcement as the number one money maker for Special Olympics in Florida.
Organizers say it's events like these that help make them so successful.
Law enforcement has raised more than $22,000 so far this year. They say their goal is to raise $50 thousand.
Upcoming events include the annual Torch Run on Saturday, April 14.
