Gainesville Police ID Bank Robber
Published April 4th, 2012
Gainesville Police have identified the elderly man they say tried to rob a bank last week.
GPD is looking for 63-year-old Charles Jerkins Sr.
Detectives say he walked into the Sunstate Credit Union in downtown Gainesville and demanded money.
When the teller refused, he walked away without taking anything.
According to GPD officers, a former co-worker recognized his description from the news and called police.
Witnesses from the bank then positively identified his photo in a lineup.
Police believe Jerkins is still in the area, and he normally gets around using a bike and the bus.
