There's proof that domestic violence knows no age barrier. A ninety one year old man is under arrest, accused of physically assaulting a woman at his home. The man's also a professor emeritus at University of Florida.
"I saw the front door of the apartment was completely gone," Dennis Benac, facilities manager The Greens At West End apartment complex, said.
Apartment complex worker Dennis Benac never thought the elderly couple who live here would ever get violent.
"All the lights were on no one was there except for the sheriff's department," Benac said.
Originally he thought someone in the apartment injured himself.
"They were unable, the fallen and I can't get up thing," he said.
Alachua County Deputies found out differently when the came here to apartment D-18 at The Greens at West End complex near Newberry.
"They wanted me to secure the building, so that they could leave the premises," Benac said.
Deputies say around 11:30 Thursday night, an eight nine year old woman who lives in the apartment called 911 saying she got into a verbal argument with her husband. The woman said the argument escalated and her husband threw her to the ground.
"I was pretty surprised, both people I mean with walkers, and so forth," Benac said.
The victim hit her head on the ground, and deputies say the man got a broom and attacked the victim several times.
"Pretty hard to believe," Benac said.
Deputies stayed on the phone with the woman until they arrived, they couldn't get in because the door was locked and no one answered, but they forced their way in. Deputies arrested Ochi and the woman stayed with neighbors.
"To have the elderly people fighting, it shocked me," Benac said.
The front door was quickly repaired, but for their lives, it may take a little bit longer.
A family friend said normally Ochi isnot violent. He has one of 3 Ph.D's one of them Honorary from Italy. The friend says the couple is not in good health and they are getting outside assistance and they put the couple in home.
