Weekend Planner
Happy Friday everyone! Spring is always an active time of year when it comes to outdoor weekend events. Whether you want to head to the coast, or stay inland, there's lots to do this weekend!
You can travel back in time this weekend as High Springs hosts it's Pioneer Days celebration. The community was founded in the late 1800's. At the event there'll be the Heritage Village where you can see black-smithing and weaving. There'll also be a shoot-out renactment, a fun Kids Korral area and other western themed entertainment. Pioneer Days runs Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm and from 10 to 4 Sunday in downtown High Springs. Website
If you get the itch to head to the coast, Cedar Key is having it's Fine Arts Festival this weekend. This is the 48th year the folks on the island have hosted the event. There will be all kinds of art and fine crafts (with over $18,000 in prize money up for grabs). Nearby City Park will have activities for the kids, music...and some seafood and desserts to sample. The festival goes from 10 to 5 both Saturday and Sunday on Second Street in Cedar Key. Website
Gainesville Regional Airport is hosting it's second Gator Fly-In on Saturday. If you like checking out aircraft there will be lots to see...plus there will be a flight simulator, aviation vendors and other things to learn about. There'll also be a classic car show, food and activities for the kids. Gator Fly-In runs from 9 a.m. To 4 p.m. Saturday at the University Air Center ramp across the runway from the Gainesville Regional Airport main terminal. Website
In Marion County it will be classic farm equipment that will be part of the Farmland Preservation Festival. Aside from antique farm equipment, there'll be a farmers market, tractor parade and educational booths. Add to that entertainment, food and other activities. The festival runs from 9 to 3 Saturday at Harvest Village, about a mile north of McIntosh on US 441. Website
This weekend you can run, walk or roll to raise money for treatment and cures for spinal cord injuries . Susie's Run is a 5k event. It starts Saturday at 9 am at Westwood Middle School in Gainesville with proceeds going to the Christopher Reeve Foundation. Website
