Weekend Planner
Happy Friday everyone! Whether you like country crooners, old aircraft or just enjoy getting outside, there's a little something for everyone this weekend!
When some people around northern Florida hear the words "country music" and "festival" they think "Suwannee River Jam". The four day country music extravaganza continues through Saturday. I saw Faith Hill there myself several years ago. This year's headliners include Trace Adkins, Randy Travis and Craig Morgan to name a few. The entertainment will be on multiple stages....and the natural environment is hard to beat. Suwannee River Jam is at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak. From I-75, take exit 451...and go south 4 1/2 miles on highway 129. Website
People in Gainesville had a chance to see some cool aircraft last weekend....this weekend it's Ocala's turn. The Ocala Airport is hosting Wings Over Ocala this weekend. You'll get a chance to not only see World War 2 vintage aircraft on the ground, but take a ride in a 1929 Ford Tri-Motor "Tin Goose". Most of the activity, including a classic car show, will be Saturday from 8 to 5, with activities wrapping up Sunday from 8 to noon. The airport is located at 750 SW 60th Avenue in Ocala. Website
South of Ocala, the "the city with small town charm" is having a celebration Saturday. The City of Belleview, which was started in the late 1800's, is hosting it's Founders Day event to honor the founders of the city. There'll be arts & crafts, food, a car show, live entertainment and more. The event is Saturday from 10 to 3 at City Hall Park in downtown Belleview. Website
Kanapaha Botanical Gardens is hosting its "Moonlight Walk" Saturday night. You'll get a chance to walk a mile and a quarter path amongst twinkle lights, lanterns and some 1500 luminaries. You can get a bite to eat and enjoy music along the way....and the local astronomy club will have their scopes set up so you can gaze at the sky. The Moonlight Walk runs from 7 to 11 Saturday night at the gardens off Archer Road in southwest Gainesville. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
