Weekend Planner
Happy Friday everyone! It's great to get out and enjoy the outdoors....especially before the summer heat *and* humidity set in....for good....or so it seems. This week we have a mix of indoor and outdoor things to do....
The small community of Windsor is hosting its family friendly Windsor Zucchini Festival Saturday. This is the 28th year they've celebrated the vegetable. You can try zucchini cornbread, sweet zucchini bread, and fried zucchini. There's also a cook-a-zook contest...and plenty of other food there besides zucchini...plus there'll be lots of activities for the kids. And of course there's the crowning of the Duke of Zuke and Miss Zuqueenie. The festival runs from 8 to 5 Saturday. Just head east out of Gainesville on state road 20 or 26 and take county road 234 to Windsor. Proceeds help the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department. Website
Ducks, perhaps thousands, will be invading Tuscawilla Park in Ocala this weekend. Rubber ducks, that is. It's part of the Mid Florida Duck Derby, a fundraiser for the Children's Home Society. If you're 18 or older and your duck is a winner in the race across the pond, you can win a prize. There'll be other activities and food at the event that goes from 11 to 3 Saturday. It helps CHS's work to eliminate child abuse and neglect. Website
In Gainesville, the Hippodrome is wrapping up it's production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream". The Hipp brings William Shakespeare's classic tale to the stage which includes great special effects, illusion and dance. Shows are tonight at 8, Saturday at 5 and 8:30, and Sunday at 2. Website
Saturday the Gold Head Branch State Park near Keystone Heights is having it's Family Fun Fest. If you've got kids...they'll have a chance to burn off some energy on the giant slides and bounce houses. There will also be fire trucks, wildlife displays, food and music that will make for a nice outing for the family. The event runs from 10 to 4 Saturday. To get to Family Fun Fest, just head to the park located six miles north of Keystone Heights on state road 21. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
