Happy Friday everyone! With kids out of school, a lot of families will be gearing up for summer vacations. If you'll be in town this weekend we have a few suggestions for things you can do.
This Saturday Ocala will be hosting a John Travolta red carpet movie event...featuring a preview screening of the actors' latest film "Savages". The event is a fundraiser...with proceeds benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Ocala, the College of Central Florida Foundations' Jett Travolta Scholarship, and other organizations. The festivities start at 4 pm with a reception and photo opportunity with Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston. Tickets are 150 dollars. The reception is at the Ewers Century Center at the College of Central Florida in Ocala. Website
If you're looking to get outside this weekend...and you like water sports...then Lake Weir is the place to be. The 2012 USA Wake Surf Nationals are being held this weekend on the lake in Ocklawaha. Wake surf is a quickly developing sport....with clubs forming around the United States. You can see many of the best riders in the world in competition at the event. The three day national championships conclude Sunday. Website
Also in Marion County the Florida Agricultural Center and Horse Park is hosting Red, Ride and Blue Saturday. The event is a fundraiser for the Florida Horse Park Foundation. There'll be celebrity trail rides, along with barbecue and live music. Admission is ten dollars. The event starts at 4 Saturday at the horse park located at 11008 South Highway 475 in Ocala. Website
In Alachua County, Nations Park in Newberry is host to week one of baseball action at the new baseball facility. 18 teams from around the country (some coming from as far as Texas and Utah) will compete in the tournament. The games start Saturday at 5 pm and continue through next week. All the games are free and open to the public. Website Website
