Weekend Planner
Happy Friday everyone! If you missed out on the 4th of July fun...there are some fun things you can do this weekend.
You can get your weekend off to an early start tonight in downtown Gainesville. The City of Gainesville's "Free Fridays" Concert Series continues tonight with the All American Song Fest. Unlike last year when the focus was American music, the focus of this year's songfest is American songwriters. The concert series runs from 8 to 10 every Friday night through October 12th. Just head to the Bo Diddley Community Plaza on the corner of Southeast First Street and East University Avenue in Gainesville. Website
If you missed the Independence Day celebrations earlier this week...you still have a chance to get in on the holiday fun. The town of Horseshoe Beach on the Dixie County coast is having it's celebration tonight. There'll be fun for the whole family...with vendors serving up barbecue and fresh seafood, of course. The fireworks will be shot off Fireworks Island near Horseshoe Beach this evening. Website
Just down the coast, the community of Suwannee is having it's Fourth of July celebration on Saturday. You can enjoy the day long street festival...with activities starting around 11 am. You can also check out the annual Independence Day Golf Cart Parade that starts at 5 pm. Fireworks are part of the celebration as well, getting underway after dark around 9 Saturday evening. Website
The High Springs Community Theatre is wrapping up it's production of the show "Sylvia" this weekend. The play is a romantic comedy involving a stray dog named Sylvia (played by a young woman) and the man who takes her home to his wife. But not everyone in the relationship is wild about giving the dog a permanent home. You can catch the show tonight and Saturday night at 8...with a matinee Sunday at 2 pm. The theatre is located at 130 NE First Avenue in High Springs. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
