Weekend Planner
Happy Friday everyone! Football is still about a month away...but there are things you can do outside this weekend IF you don't mind some heat.
In our northern viewing area, the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park will be a great place to be if you have an appetite for good barbecue. The park is hosting the Smokin' On The Suwannee Barbeque Festival this weekend. Professional teams from across the Southeast are competing for over 13,000 dollars in cash and prizes....with 2,000 going to the grand champion. There'll be plenty of activities, including a car show and a family fun zone.....and you can purchase some award winning barbecue. The event runs tonight through Saturday. Gates open at 9 am and close at 10:30 pm at the music park in Live Oak. Website
Just up I-75 in Valdosta, Wild Adventures Theme Park continues it's 2012 Concert Series with the group Sugarland. The award winning country duo of Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles has produced a number of number one singles on the country charts. Altogether, Sugarland has sold more than 14 million records since starting up in 2002. The duo takes to the stage at 8 pm Saturday at Wild Adventures. Website
If you want to get outside...and escape the heat...the Gulf coast is the place to be this weekend. The Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge is having an open house on Seahorse Key Saturday. Access to the island is usually restricted to allow birds to nest undisturbed. Nesting is over now...and you can visit the island and see all kinds of birds...from brown pelicans to cormorants and herons. You can also visit the lighthouse and listen to refuge staff tell the history of the island. The event runs from 9 to 4 Saturday. If you don't have your own boat you can rent your own or catch a tour boat at Cedar Key to get there. Website Website
Enjoy your weekend!
