Political Display in Chiefland Turns Heads

Political Display in Chiefland Turns Heads

Published August 15th, 2012

LEVY COUNTY- It’s a tradition these Levy County residents say has gone too far.

Based on previous election years in the County, common practice is to vandalize the signs and banners belonging to losing parties.

Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas says, “It’s usually a tradition after an election, they call it burying somebody, a tombstone maybe some dirt, I’ve never seen it to this extreme, where they actually hung dummies up, that was kind of shocking to me.”

Douglas wasn’t running for public office but he did support Evan Sullivan who lost the race for sheriff this primary election season.

“Well I don’t really understand why they do it for candidates, the candidates would be  one thing, but just a supporter of that candidate, that I don’t really understand,” says Douglas.

In case there was any clarification needed, those responsible left a message near the display claiming the chief is guilty by association.

They also signed off with a warning letting Douglas know they’re no supporters of his.
