Three Arrested in Connection to Stabbing on UF Campus

GAINESVILLE- University of Florida Police arrested three people for a stabbing that happened early Thursday morning.
UF students are usually the first to know of crimes like these, due to the text message alert system.
While tens of thousands of people receive the messages, some students say they get so many, they wonder if the messages are losing their effectiveness.
UF students are feeling a little uneasy Thursday, after receiving another text message from University Police.
Katie Hussey remembers receiving a string of text messages just after 2 a.m. regarding a stabbing off of Buckman Drive. Luckily she wasn't nearby and says the text messages prevent her from getting too close.
"It's scary, but it's nice to know, to get to know what they look like and can be on the lookout for them, so it's nice that we are informed," Hussey said.
University Police say a small group of people got physical last night near the intersection of University Avenue and Buckman Drive.
University of Florida Police Captain Holcomb says two people were stabbed after the argument, and were taken to Shands where they had non life- threatening conditions.
Two of the suspects did get away in a nearby car at the scene, but Thursday afternoon they were found and brought into custody.
All of this information was texted to UF students.
Elisa Hevia says the texts messages do benefit students like herself, but it almost feels too regular for her liking.
However, UFPD officials say they will continue to keep their students informed through the text messages.
University Police arrested Ryan Dhookaran of Tampa, Kevin Persaud of Gainesville, and Jonathan Lebron, of Lake Mary.
