Happy Friday everyone! School may be starting soon...but that also means sports at UF will be cranking up, too!
This weekend you'll have a chance to see a few of your favorite teams at the O'Connell Center in Gainesville. Fall Sports Fan Day will take place at the Main Arena of the Odome on Saturday. You can pick up 2012 Gator team posters...and meet your favorite football, volleyball and soccer players and coaches. Members of the football team will be available to sign your poster from 3 to 6 p.m. The volleyball team will scrimmage from 3 until 4:30...with the players free to autograph your poster from 5 to 6 p.m. Feel free to bring small personal cameras to the event. The North Central Florida Beekeeping Association is hosting the 4th Annual National Honey Bee Day in Ocala. A number of area counties are participating in the event designed to help the public learn more about honeybees and other pollinators. You'll have a chance to meet scientists and beekeepers. There'll also be food and door prizes. The event runs all day Saturday at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion in Ocala. Website
You can also learn about bees in Alachua County at the UF/IFAS Alachua County Extension Service in Gainesville. At the event you can taste locally produced honey. There'll also be educational displays, and plenty of activities to keep you busy. It goes from 10 to 4 Saturday at the UF/IFAS facility at 2800 NE 39th Avenue in Gainesville. Website
If you're looking for something for your home we've got a suggestion for you. The Children's Home Society of Florida is having it's Third Annual CHS Treasure Hunt through Saturday. The upscale yard sale will feature a variety of items including electronics, furniture, antiques and more. The Treasure Hunt has a little something for everyone and the proceeds go to support CHS's child abuse and neglect prevention services. The event is at the Family Treasures Thrift Shop, 710 N. Main Street in Gainesville. Website
