Meth Lab right next to GPD substation
GAINESVILLE - A man is behind bars after investigators busted a meth lab in east Gainesville.
The home is located right next to the Gainesville Police Department subdivision station.
Amber Jones noticed her son wasn't acting normal so she took him to the emergency room.
Soon after investigators discovered the 5-year-old boy and his sister were living in an apartment they had been trying to bust.
Both kids were taken away by the Department of Children and Families.
"Getting up everyday and looking in their room and knowing that they are not there. I miss them," said Jones.
Jones' kids were taken away from her on Friday night after an undercover detective caught Jones' 37-year-old boyfriend Marty Holder cooking meth at this apartment.
"It's shocking to me that he would put my kids in danger like that," said Jones.
She said she had no idea Holder was operating a meth lab in her home.
"No I did not know, but now that I do know I am glad I took him to the hospital," said Jones.
GPD Spokeswoman, Crpl. Angelina Valuri, said medical staff members contacted DCF after suspecting the boy had been exposed to drugs.
"When patrols responded to the hospital and started investigating a little bit further, that's when they learned there was already an active undercover investigation going on at the home being conducted the Gainesville Alachua County Drug Task Force," said Valuri.
An undercover detective told Holder he would pay $200 for methamphetamine.
Holder gave the detective the drugs and was then arrested.
He admitted to cooking meth three times in the past six days while the children were in the home.
"It's not the norm to see them producing those narcotics in front of such young children. We are grateful they got the medical attention they need and pending the toxicology results and the medical results to see what exactly these children were exposed and how much they were exposed to," said Valuri.
Jones said she's also waiting for the test results because that will determine whether or not she gets her kids back.
"I just want for them to come home," said Jones.
Holder faces drug related charges. Both Holder and Jones are having pending charges until the childrens test rsults are released.
