Businesses Brace for Busy Florida-Georgia Gameday Weekend
Published October 27th, 2012
WALDO - On the eve of the annual Florida-Georgia football game, many lucky ticket holders from around North Central Florida are hitting the road and on their way to Jacksonville, where the game is played every year.
"I am definitely looking forward to the game, I can't believe we are ranked second right now," said Jay Patel, a University of Florida student, originally from London. For Patel, the hour-and-a-half drive to Jacksonville is nothing new. "Oh yeah, we do this every year. This is like tradition now," he said.
But football fans aren't the only ones who look forward to this game every year; so are many businesses along US Highway 301. "I'm hoping business will be right here all day long," said Janet Ford, who sells produce and boiled peanuts on the side of the road. She says she normally sees a big boost in sales on the day after the game, when everyone is on their way back home.
Even the local gas stations are cashing in on this weekend's big game. "It was pretty busy today. Business was 20 percent higher today than a regular weekend day," says Ricky Patel, an employee at a BP gas station in Waldo.
If you're planning to hit the road on Saturday morning to make the game, be sure to keep your speed down, as many police officers were out on Friday, a full day before the game, ticketing drivers who were caught speeding.
Saturday's game is slated to kick-off at 3:30 pm inside EverBank Field.
