Happy Friday everyone! Gainesville will be a busy place with UF Homecoming underway....but there's also plenty to do elsewhere across our area this weekend.
Tonight is the night to "Let the Gator growl"! The granddaddy of all UF homecoming activities this weekend is Gator Growl on the UF campus. What's known as the largest student run pep rally is in it's 89th year! Headlining this year is comedian Tracy Morgan...known for his roles on "30 Rock" and "Saturday Night Live". Country music star Josh Turner will perform while the festivities will be hosted by former UF and Olympic swimmer Dara Torres. Show time is 7 pm tonight in the Swamp. Website Just after noon Saturday the Gator football team takes on Louisana in the Swamp. Website
If you'd like some seafood, the Homosassa Seafood Festival is this weekend. The Citrus County community holds the festival each November. This is the 38th year for the event featuring arts & crafts and a big variety of food. Conch fritters, gator tail, fried catfish...you get the idea. The festival goes from 8 to 5 Saturday and 8 to 4:30 Sunday in the historic district in downtown Homosassa. Website
Saturday, the Marion County Humane Society is hosting Hot Dogs & Cool Cats 2012. It's the annual car, motorcycle and truck show benefitting the organization. You'll see some cool rides there...including police and fire department vehicles. Add in K-9 dogs, pet contests, food and music for what should be a good family outing. Hot Dogs and Cool Cats runs from 9 am to 4 pm Saturday at the McPherson Governmental Complex, 601 SE 25th Avenue in Ocala. Website
Sunday the City of Alachua is hosting the Alachua Harvest Festival. The event, in it's tenth year, will have musicians at two stages throughout the day.
