Act Of Kindness
NEWBERRY - Meet Madison Jewel Mazon. She's your average 14 year year old teenager. Except one thing makes her standout. Her mom, Jennifer Prekler Mazon says, "She came and said mom, I really want to cut my hair off and donate it, can I please do it? And I thought you know it's christmas time, we're on a break... Why not?"
It's her sense of caring that makes her stand out. "I was going through facebook and i saw this picture of this girl who had cancer and she was in the mirror and she was drawing on the mirror, hair on the mirror... Pretending like she had hair with a marker in it... Like it was really sad so I probably thought that maybe if i did it, i could make a difference," Madison tells me. And she adds, "I thought about it for a while and I really wanted to donate all of my hair, cause i thought it would be a good thing to do."
This encouraged her to donate all of her hair. Five hair pieces, each about 14 inches. Madison's cousin, Gloria Prekler was in disbelief at first... But was the first one with her at the hair salon to support this caring decision. "And I was like... She's not going to do it. And then later on i called her that evening and she said, did I tell you? I am going to cut all my hair off! And I was like I thought that was a joke!" Gloria adds, "When i got there, you know like half of her head was already shaven off."
Madison will be mailing her hair off to locks of love which helps children with medical hair loss by the end of this year. She says, "I was smiling like the whole time, I was really excited. I didn't show any emotion the whole time really, i was just really excited. I was like i can't believe this is happening... But i would say the next day i woke up i was like oh my gosh, is this real?! But in a good way not a bad way."
Madison tells me she hopes her hair will help a child in need boost their self esteem and confidence. "I am really happy. I am glad that i did it. It was a good present for all the people who didn't have hair."
