Crowds Pack Movie Theaters on Christmas Day to See New Releases
Published December 26th, 2012
GAINESVILLE - Most places around town were closed on Tuesday for the Christmas holiday. But as they are every year, movie theaters were one of the few places actually open.
"Les Miserables," the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical, was released on Christmas Day, making a ticket to see the movie a hot commodity. Ticket holders had to stand in a line that stretched around the building just to get inside the theater.
For many families, spending Christmas at the movies has become a regular thing. "It's kind of a tradition in our house," said Gainesville resident Austin Harrell, who came to "Django Unchained" with his sister and cousin. "We've been going since we were little, so we just do it every Christmas," said Harrell.
In addition to "Les Mis," other new releases this week include "Jack Reacher" starring Tom Cruise, as well as "The Hobbit."
