Ocala Drive-In Business Doing Well After Reopening
Published December 10th, 2012
The Ocala Drive-In is one of the oldest businesses in the city, it's one of the few drive-ins in the state and the only one in our area.
The screen was dark for 6 years, but after the new owners took over and spent thousands of dollars in repairs, the Ocala Drive-In is back open for business.
So far business has done well.
Brothers Charlie and John Watzke took over ownership of the theatre nearly 3 years ago.
The pair brought in some major changes, including restoring the original projector that came with the theatre's grand opening back in 1948.
They say they hope to bring the spark back to some older customers and gain some new and younger ones.
The Watzke's say they learned everything about the theatre business from their grandfather, who started as a projectionist back in the early 19-hundreds.
Watzke says heading to the drive-in is a different type of atmosphere and families can come out and have a good time.
They want to show patrons an old school type of movie experience.
