Happy Friday everyone! We've got lots of holiday activities going on this weekend, whether you want to enjoy a show inside, or take in the lights around north-central Florida.
Indoors, the Hippodrome is serving up some holiday cheer through the weekend. The Hipp, for 35 years now, has continued it's holiday production of Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol". The show stars Rusty Salling (in his 23rd year as Scrooge), in addition to other Hippodrome company members and a cast of children from the Gainesville area. You can catch "A Christmas Carol" Saturday afternoon at 2 and 4 pm. Website
Also at the Hipp, the show "A Tuna Christmas" returns after a two year hiatus. The comedy is set in Tuna, Texas...where it's 24 hours before Christmas day. The show is centered around the small Texas towns Christmas yard display contest. Show times are tonight, Saturday and Sunday nights at 7:30...with a matinee Sunday at 2 pm. Website
The Gainesville Community Playhouse wraps up its production of the show "White Christmas" this weekend. The musical is based on the classic 1954 Bing Crosby/Danny Kaye movie musical. You'll get to hear plenty of songs from renowned songwriter Irving Berlin. You can take in the holiday classic tonight and Saturday night at 8 pm...with a matinee Sunday afternoon at 2. Website
At the Phillips Center, the Gainesville Ballet Theatre is celebrating its 39th season with its production of the original ballet "The Little Match Girl". The performance, adapted from the story by Hans Christian Andersen, features over 60 local cast members...including 10 year old J.J. Finley Elementary student Gabby Brazzel in the title role. You can catch "The Little Match Girl" tonight at 8 pm with a matinee Saturday at 2:30 at the Phillips Center. Website
If it's lights you're looking for, there's plenty of them to see this weekend. Silver Springs and the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park...in addition to Stephen Foster, Rainbow Springs and Homosassa Springs State Parks all have holiday light displays to check out.
