GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Police Department says a man has been shot and killed at Southern Pines Apartments.

Witnesses called police to say they found the man dead outside on the pavement, and police say he had been shot in the head.

Police are actively searching for the gunman.

They received the call a little after 8:00 p.m. tonight.

Police say witnesses also say they saw the suspect hit the man with something as he fell, but that he did die from the gunshot wound.
