6th Grader Wins Full Ride College Scholarship
ALACHUA COUNTY, FL:
From middle school to college, a 6th grade student from Alachua County has won a full ride college scholarship based on a paper he wrote.
Khary Khalfani attends Oak View Middle School in Newberry, and wrote an essay titled "Positively Diverse."
It was for a black history month essay contest sponsored by the state.
Contestants had to explore diversity in the United States.
Khary says the goal of his paper was to say that diversity can have a negative effect on society only if people choose to be prejudiced.
Khary says he just wanted to make his mom proud, saying "I was excited my mom was excited too she started screaming when she heard I won."
Khary says he wants to be a pediatrician when he grows up.
