Golden Apple Gala
Well, first it was the Golden Globes.
Now, it's the Golden Apple.
The Public Education Foundation of Marion County held its 23rd Annual Golden Apple Gala tonight at the Ocala Hilton.
The event celebrated teachers and the impact they've had on students.
Now among the nominees were Karen Morrison, Dana Andrews, Judith Dominguez, Bob Ayton, and Tim Jones.
The selection process included a written portfolio showcasing their teaching philosophies, and personal interviews, as well as classroom observations.
Marion County School Spokesperson Kevin Christian says this year the teacher who wins gets to keep a special prize.
{Kevin Christian, Marion County School Spokesman} "Our teacher of the year gets a brand new 2013 Volkswagon Jetta from the Volkswagon dealer here in town. That's the first time that's ever happen. The teacher of the year gets to keep it."
And that teacher of the year, the winner is in his sixth year in Marion County-- Tim Jones -- an ancient civilizations and civics teacher at Howard Middle School.
