Magazine Scammers Caught Trying to Steal Pills from Disabled Woman

Published March 12th, 2013

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL:

Prescription Drug abuse is one of the fastest-growing drug problems in the nation.

And Alachua County is no exception for this dilemma.

And these people interested in prescription drugs will stop at nothing to get their hands on some.

Even if it means scamming an elderly disabled woman.

One woman spoke to WCJB about her dealings with a couple who tried to take advantage of her.

Even though she wanted to remain anonymous, she did explain she is 87 years old and needs a walker to get by.

And it was a couple selling magazine subscriptions who tried to deceive her.

A male and a female names Chad Levar and Ariana Nordman knocked on her door to sell her magazine subscriptions but had different intentions.

She says she let the couple inside her home, Nordman the female stayed in the living room talking with the victim.

In the meantime the male, Levar said he had to use the bathroom and barged into the woman's restroom, bedrooms and kitchen to rummage through the cabinets.

What was he looking for? Pills.

     A common problem in Florida.

According to my Florida-Legal.com, pharmaceutical drug abuse translates to more than seven dead a day to prescription drug overdose in our state.

Victim said, "it was extremely upsetting, i don't know if i will ever get over it, really. they apparently don't care at all, they could see i was disabled, from the start."

And while she does take pain medication he couldn't find any.

At this point the home owner became uncomfortable and told them she was not interested in buying any magazines.

Levar became angry, yelled at her and the couple left.

Nordman was released and Levar faces charges of exploitation on an elderly person.

You may remember our special on seniors vs. crime project...

It's a local project set up to identify various means used to victimize senior citizens.
