Happy Friday everyone! For many the Florida/Georgia game is THE big event of the weekend. But if you're not going to Jacksonville, there's lots to do right here in north-central Florida.
If you're looking for some seafood, a trip to Citrus County may be in order. The Rotary Club of Crystal River is hosting the annual Stone Crab Jam Saturday. At the event there'll be a mix of music on three stages. There'll be all sorts of food... Expect seafood, of course (including stone crabs). You might want to check out the chowder cookoff, too. At the event you can even get out on the water and take a tour of Kings Bay. Stone Crab Jam is from 3:30 to 11 pm Saturday at 550 North Citrus Avenue in Crystal River. Parking will be at a premium so buses will run from the Crystal River Mall to the event. Website
Between Gainesville and Ocala, the town of Citra is having a celebration of its own. The Marion County community, known as the home of the pineapple orange, is holding its annual Orange-A-Fair. The event celebrates the agricultural history of the town and is designed as a fundraiser for the Citra Historical Museum. There will be a variety of activities including antique car rides, live music, antiques and a citrus cook-off. Orange-A-Fair runs from 9 am to 3 pm Saturday at the Citra Community Center on State Road 318, just east off US 301. Website
To the north in Suwannee County, Live Oak will be host to the Scarecrow Festival Saturday. It's produced by the Live Oak Partnership, an organization designed to revitalize the city. The event is free and will be a fun outing for families. You can expect bounce houses and other kids activities. There'll also be a scarecrow contest and a scarecrow yard where you can go and make your own scarecrow. The Scarecrow Festival is from 9 am to 2 pm Saturday at Millennium Park on West Highway 90 in downtown Live Oak. Website
Next door in Columbia County, the Columbia County Fair is underway. The fair runs from tonight through next Saturday at the fairgrounds on State Road 247 in Lake City. Website
Finally, in Gainesville tonight you can get a first look at the Gator men’s basketball team. The Gators face off against Florida Southern in exhibition action tonight at 7 in the Odome. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
