Elderly Woman Stabbed During Home Invasion
OCALA- A woman from Marion County is recovering from a knife attack in her own home this morning. It happened on Northwest Second Avenue in Ocala, just two blocks from the barbershop
where two men were robbed and shot over the weekend. Officers are searching for the man who entered a woman's home and stabbed her. The victim's 9-1-1 call reveals how the
intruder got inside her house early this morning.
"A man just came into my house and I think he stabbed me," said Connie Cordell.
Just minutes after being stabbed in the chest, 65- year- old Cordell managed to call for help.
"Is he still there," asked the dispatcher.
"No! I started screaming and he ran out," said Cordell.
Cordell lives in this home on Northwest Second Avenue in Ocala.
"She was sitting in the living room and happened to at that point in time have opened a door to allow her cat to go outside," said Sgt. Angy Scroble who is the public information officer with
the Ocala Police Department. The intruder jumped Cordell’s fence and stormed into her home demanding money. Cordell told the man she didn't have any cash and that's when he stabbed her with a knife.
"Where did he cut you," asked the dispatcher.
"In the chest," said Cordell.
Cordell was immediately rushed to a hospital.
"It was a very serious injury and she did go into surgery," said Sgt. Scroble.
Officials said Cordell came out of surgery and is doing well at this time. Neighbors describe Cordell as a polite and active older lady who didn't deserve to be attacked.
"She’s never done anything do hurt anybody. She is always at home taking care of her home and her mother," said Patty Malone who is Cordell’s neighbor.
"She waved at everybody. She’d help anybody she could," said Tina Pearson who lives in the neighborhood.
Several neighbors who have lived in the area for years say they are on edge after Saturday night's barbershop shooting and Tuesday morning's home invasion.
Some don't even want to let their kids walk to the school bus by themselves.
"It’s a tragedy. I never imagined something like that would happen here," said Pearson.
The intruder is described as a thin white man, in his twenties. According to the 9-1-1 call Cordell told the dispatcher that he was wearing a camouflage jacket and jeans.
