Happy Friday everyone! There's lots of ways to enjoy the holiday season this weekend.
Dance Alive National Ballet is performing its rendition of "The Nutcracker" in Gainesville this weekend. In the ballet, you'll get a chance to see the Sugar Plum Fairy and her court, cheer for the tiny toy soldiers and watch the swirling snowflakes above the stage. "The Nutcracker" at the Phillips Center is tonight at 7:30, with additional performances Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. The Hippodrome in Gainesville is celebrating the holiday season with two plays. "A Tuna Christmas", a comedy set in Tuna, Texas, is in its 11th year at the Hipp. Shows are tonight and Saturday night at 7:30, with a matinee Sunday at 2 pm. You can also take in the Hipp's production of Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol" on Saturday. Shows are at 2 and 4 Saturday afternoon at the theatre in downtown Gainesville. Website
Just north of Dunnellon, Rainbow Springs State Park is a great place to have some holiday fun, too. Santa Over the Rainbow, as its called, will get you in the spirit. You can walk through the many lights that decorate the headsprings area of the park, see Santa and Mrs. Claus some up the river on a lighted boat, and listen to Christmas carols. The event continues tonight, Saturday and Sunday from 6 to 8 pm at the park three miles north of Dunnellon on the east side of U.S. 41. Website
If you love looking at light displays, the Sprit of the Suwannee Music Park is doin' it up this year. The park near Live Oak has over 6 million lights to gaze at. While you're there you can enjoy some hot cocoa, roast marshmallows and visit with Santa and his elves. You can catch "Suwannee Lights" nightly starting at 6 pm. The event continues until Christmas Eve. Website
