Happy Friday everyone! The weather can be changeable this time of year, so we have a mix of indoor and outdoor things to do.
The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus is in town this weekend. "The Greatest Show on Earth" (as it is referred to) will be at the Odome for five shows. The circus is presenting its show "Super Circus Heroes", a production that Ringling says is "filled with superhuman athleticism, power and pageantry". You can expect elephants, camels and other animals, of course, along with acrobats and aerialists. Shows are at 7 tonight... Saturday at 11 am, 3 pm and 7 pm,... as well as Sunday at 1 pm at the O'Connell Center in Gainesville. Website Website
Also in Gainesville, this is the first weekend for the Hippodrome's latest production. "Good People", a play set in south Boston, is centered around a single mother struggling to make ends meet... and the lengths to which she will go to have a better life. The show, nominated for a Tony Award for best play, is referred to as funny, yet touching. Performances are tonight at 8, Saturday at 5 and 8:30 pm, and Sunday at 2 and 7 pm at the Hipp in downtown Gainesville. Website
To the south in Marion County, the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale plays host to the Bellamy Brothers Saturday. The brothers got their start in the music business in the early 1960's. The hit song "Let Your Love Flow" was probably their biggest in the 1970's. Since then they've gone on to reach the top of the country charts about 20 times. Show times are 2:30 and 7:30 pm Saturday at the Orange Blossom Opry, located at 13939 SE Highway 42 in Weirsdale. Website
Sunday, Stephen Foster State Park is hosting a concert celebrating National Stephen Foster Day. Foster, who died at the young age of 37, was a prolific American songwriter. A highlight of the celebration will be a performance on the tubular bells in the 200 foot plus tall carillon. The event is 2 pm Sunday at the park on U.S. 41 in White Springs. Website
One last note. If you like Fords, you might want to head to Silver Springs State Park. The park is hosting its 20th Ford and Mustang Roundup this weekend. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
