Happy Friday everyone! We've got all sorts of cool things to do this weekend....
It may have been a cool week, but things will be heating up in the O'Connell Center on the UF campus this weekend. Tonight, the second ranked Florida gymnastics team will be at home in the Odome to take on the top ranked Oklahoma Sooners. The Gators and Sooners, by the way, were also the top two teams in the 2013 NCAA Championship team final. The match starts at 7 this evening. Website The men's basketball team hopes to continue its' winning ways this weekend. The #3 Gators are facing Texas A & M. Tip off is just after 4 pm Saturday in the Odome. Website
If you'd like to take in a play, this is the opening weekend for Gainesville Community Playhouse's latest production. The musical "Aida" centers around the relationship between an Egyptian soldier and a Nubian princess. The show, featuring the music of Elton John, premiered on Broadway back in March of 2000. "Aida" was nominated for five Tony Awards, winning four. You can catch GCP's production tonight at 8 pm, Saturday at 2 and 8 pm, with a matinee Sunday at 2. The show runs through Sunday, February 23rd. Website
This is a great weekend for country music fans. The Twin Oaks Amphitheater at Silver Springs is host to country legend Willie Nelson. Nelson, who turned 80 last year, has been performing since the 1950's. The Country Music Hall of Fame member has performed at Silver Springs on a number of occasions. He'll be at the park Saturday, with gates opening at 6 pm. Tickets are 35 dollars through Friday, 45 bucks the day of the show. Website
Shenandoah will also be in Marion County Saturday. The country music band got its' start in the mid 80's in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. They've had a number of number one hits on the country charts. Shenandoah will be at the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale Saturday. Show times are 2:30 and 7:30 pm. Website
Finally, this is the final weekend for the Hoggetowne Medieval Faire in Gainesville. It runs from 10 to 6 Saturday and Sunday. Website If you want to see farming the old fashioned way, check out Plow Days at Dudley Farm State Park, It goes from 10 to 2 Saturday. Website
