Happy Friday everyone! Music is a big part of our Memorial weekend activities.
The Florida Folk Festival returns to White Springs this weekend. The festival, now in its 62nd year, is a celebration of the Sunshine State. It's an event featuring musicians, dancers, artists and craftsmen that all have some connection to Florida. There'll be ten performing stages in all with about 200 performances throughout the event. You and your family can try playing a mandolin, square dancing, and sampling all kinds of good food. Gates open at 8 am both days this weekend. It's at the Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs. The park's about 3 miles east of I -75 exit 439. Website
This weekend's Blue Crab Festival in Palatka is a Memorial Day tradition. The four day festival is filled with live entertainment, food, and fun activities for all. The music ranges from country to blues to rock. Expect a wide variety of food, with blue crab and a seafood cook-off. You can walk through the arts and crafts booths along St. Johns Avenue, as well. As for the fun, there'll be a ferris wheel, bumper cars and other carnival rides and activities. The festival goes until midnight tonight. It runs from 10 am to midnight Saturday and Sunday, and from 10 to 5 Monday on the Palatka riverfront. Website
If you're into country music, check out the Feel Downtown Live Concert in Ocala Saturday. The group Diamond Rio is in town. The country/gospel band had their first hit with the song "Meet in the Middle" in 1991. That made Diamond Rio the first country group to get to the top of the charts with their debut single. They've had four more number ones... and added several awards, including four CMA Vocal Group of the Year awards. You can see them Saturday night at Citizens' Circle in downtown Ocala. Gates open at 6. They take to the stage at 8 pm. Website
The award winning Lee Greenwood will also be in Marion County this weekend. He's had seven number one hits during his 50-plus year career (he's 71 now). But he's probably best known for his number seven hit "God Bless the U.S.A.". He takes to the stage at 7 pm Saturday at the Circle Square Cultural Center at On Top of the World in Ocala. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
