New Fare Boxes In RTS Buses
GAINESVILLE -A new fare box on RTS buses is making the routes around town run a little smoother.
The new boxes are used worldwide and cost $1.5 million dollars to install on Gainesville buses.
That money was funded through federal grants.
Cards can now be swiped very quickly and change vouchers are given when riders only have a one, five, or ten dollar bill.
Chip Skinner, RTS Marketing and Communications Supervisor: "it will allow us to account for our specialty passes like our employee passes and our specialty bus programs"
Workplaces offering those passes will now be able to receive data on how many people used the bus.
