Happy Friday everyone! It may still be quiet on the gridiron, but there are other things going on around our area.
It's Friday and in Gainesville that means the "Free Fridays" Concert Series continues tonight. On stage this evening: the R. Mutt Blues Band. The group, formed three years ago, are two-time North Central Florida Blues Society winners. They'll be performing blues originals and updated versions of traditional blues classics. The show runs from 8 to 10 pm tonight at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza downtown. Website
The new school year is just around the corner…and you can gear up for it in Gainesville this weekend. The community group People Against Violence Enterprises is hosting the Stop the Violence Rally 2014 Saturday. The rally, in its 15th year, is designed to help students and their parents prepare for the school year…and learn about preventing violence at school and in their neighborhoods. The first 1500 kids attending will get free backpacks filled with school supplies. The event goes from 10 am until noon at the Santa Fe College Gymnasium off NW 39th Avenue. Website
If you and your family are competitive you might want to head to the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park Saturday. The park is hosting a Family Olympics Competition. The event is designed to celebrate teamwork, family and the outdoors. Your crew can try out the sack races, bicycling, canoe races, hurdle jumping and more. The event starts at 8 am Saturday at the park located at 3076 95th Drive in Live Oak. Website
Motown Magic is coming to Ocala this weekend. The show is an energetic tribute to the Motown sound. You'll get to hear some of the songs that made it some of the best music produced.... like the music of Michael Jackson, the Supremes, Barry White, Tina Turner and lots more. The show starts at 7 pm Saturday at the Circle Square Cultural Center in Ocala. Website
