GAINESVILLE, FLA. - A North Carolina woman who was the victim of an alleged hit-and-run is being remembered by family and friends.
“I feel severley heartbroken," says Eric Anderson, who has been friends with Jennifer Nicole Jones-Robinson, known as Nikki to her family, for over twenty years.
Jones spent over 15 years in North Central Florida before moving out of state. She was in the Air Force before being honorably discharged. Family members say the mother of three was known as a farm girl who loved the outdoors and was very patriotic.
“She wasn’t fake at all and said what was on her mind and was just a real good person.”
Jessica Taylor has been friends with Nikki since 2010, but says she had such an impact in her life. "I still have the necklaces and the bracelets that we made." She says her daughter Erica would often get excited when Nikki would come over to do arts and crafts. She has traveled to Tampa with Nikki and visited Alabama when her dad was sick and says that she is still shocked that her friend is not a phone call away. "This is really sad news and Nikki will be greatly missed."
Jack Osborne, a friend of the family, says that he has known Nikki since childhood. "Nikki loved her children, loved her family and friends," Osborne says. "She could make friends anywhere she went and loved the country life."
When it came to being the support of her family, Nikki was known to always lend a helping hand. Family members say that she came home to be with her mother, who lived on a simple farm in Trenton. They say she loved the country life and was very patriotic.
““She was very caring and would give you the shirt off of her back if she knew you needed it,” says Lisa Allen, a friend of over 25 years.“She helped keep me going and helped me finish school and get a certificate.”
Soon after Nikki was reported missing, an outpour of support came from the community with people sharing images of the missing mom. Friends say it was great to see people concerned about her well-being.
“If something like this happens in a small town or county, it hits home no matter who it is,” says Allen.
The Florida Highway Patrol say the investigation will take up to two to three months to complete. Family and friends have created a memorial fund for the three children Nikki leaves behind.
