GAINESVILLE, Fla. --
A Levy County family is trying to piece together the loss of their army veteran killed on christmas night.
"My heart just dropped," says Williams' cousin, Sirrisa Miles. "I was in disbelief"
36-year-old Miles was at home in Chiefland when she heard the news of her cousin . FHP officials say 30 - year- old Sam Williams was driving home when he lost control of his car.
The car veered off the road at US 129 and came to a stop at a tree. Williams was airlifted to Shands hospital after the fatal accident.
"About an hour later we got a call that he has passed," says Miles.
"He had two kids which he adored," says Miles. "He was just an awesome person; He joined the military, I talked to him about joining the military."
Parts of the car are still laying in the wooded area. And a bouquet of flowers can be seen next to pieces of his car."I'm wrecked," says long-time friend Josh Kuehl. "Sam was so lively, this is the last thing I thought would happen to him."
FHP officials say Williams was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. Kuehl - who lives in the area - says this intersection is dangerous at night. "It's very dark here and it's very hard to see and it's kind of dangerous for a while now," says Kuehl
And Williams' cousin tells me what she'll miss most: his smile and humor. "Anytime any of the kids see him they would just light up," says Miles. "He was there for you when you needed anything. He had anything he would give it to you. He was just a good person."
Williams' cousin says it's going to be painful traveling down this common road near her home."We travel this road everyday or almost every other day. So I know traveling this road its going to feel so different just knowing that one of our loved ones passed here, it's just not going to be the same."
FHP tells me it will take several months before the cause of the accident is released. The family says they are working on memorial plans for Williams.
